For the city guests
Exploring Vilnius by public transport
Travelling in the city by public transport is a great and convenient way to reach the destination, the places of interest in the centre or suburbs. You can travel in Vilnius by bus, express and night buses, trolleybuses. Tickets can be purchased and topped up on the card “Vilniečio kortelė” (Vilnius Resident Card) (one-time fee is EUR 1.5) or on the phone using m.Ticket app. Tickets are valid on all buses and trolleybuses throughout the specified time. During this period, the number of transport interchanges during your travel is unlimited. You can plan your trip with the following apps: m.Ticket, Trafi, Google Maps or using route planning.
Currently there are 528 buses and 267 trolleybuses in Vilnius. Over 300 public transport vehicles are new (1–3 years). Six of ten buses in Vilnius are brand new. Renewal of trolleybuses is less active, but 41 trolleybuses are up to 2 years. It is planned to purchase 15 more new trolleybuses. Surveys on passenger satisfaction with public transport conducted in the last two years (2018 and 2019) showed that Vilnius buses and trolleybuses and the organisation of public transport are rated by almost 8 points out of 10. These are the highest ratings of satisfaction with public transport in the entire history of conducting surveys. The passenger surveys show that comfort and speed of travel are the most important for passengers and therefore the renewal of vehicles itself expands the network of A-lanes. It currently consists of 36 km, and once all planned additional sections are equipped, the network of A-lanes in the city will exceed 46 km.
The public transport system in Vilnius is widely developed, buses and trolleybuses are becoming a convenient and fast mean of transport during peak times. Public transport is increasingly used by Vilnius residents when going to work, studies, meetings and during leisure time.
